Skills and Requirements

  • DEC in building mechanical technology or any other equivalent training;
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a similar position;
  • Very good knowledge of the building code, construction code, building law and environmental regulations;
  • Excellent command of French (oral and written) and good knowledge of English (oral and written);
  • Good knowledge of common office software (MS Office);
  • Available, passionate and committed;
  • Sense of priorities and organization as well as the ability to manage several projects simultaneously;
  • Adaptability and stress tolerance;
  • Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills;
  • Skilled negotiator;

Reporting to the Director - Shipping and Material Resources, the incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and supervising the execution of work aimed at the effective management related to the maintenance and security of land, buildings and equipment. He/she will supervise the work of external suppliers assigned to the general maintenance and upkeep of various equipment. More specifically, the Director - Building will have the following responsibilities:

  • Negotiate, supervise and evaluate the various service contracts related to the regular maintenance and supervision of buildings and grounds such as: housekeeping, sanitation, snow removal, landscaping maintenance, pest management, wastewater management, garage door maintenance, security, parking lot paving and others;
  • Negotiate, supervise and evaluate various service contracts related to equipment such as: cameras, elevator, fire, alarms, security of all kinds, access control, ventilation, heating, air conditioning, generator, piping, pumps and other electrical and mechanical systems;
  • Coordinate service contracts for all buildings in order to benefit from economies of scale;
  • Develop and implement work schedules related to service contracts;
  • Prepares calls for tenders, analyzes bids and makes recommendations to management;
  • Plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates activities related to maintenance, repair and construction projects in order to make modifications to buildings and equipment. Ensures communication with department managers affected by the work. Maintains coordination meetings with various stakeholders;
  • Coordinates and controls the execution of work with subcontractors, ensuring that they comply with health and safety rules. Inform subcontractors of the company’s OHS regulations and ensure that the appropriate form is completed;
  • Prepare budgets and ensure that they are respected;
  • Carry out regular building inspections to ensure that buildings are well maintained in accordance with the various laws;
  • Answer calls from various departments and coordinate punctual and emergency work;
  • Ensure the energy performance of buildings;
  • Ensure that buildings and equipment are in compliance with laws and regulations as well as the requirements of our insurers (environment, building code, etc.);
  • Participate in the annual update of the fire safety plan and evacuation plans. Organize evacuation practices in collaboration with the occupational health and safety committee;
  • Prepare purchase requisitions (P.O.) and manage the inventory of equipment used for building maintenance;
  • All other related tasks related to the function.
